Flo was singled out in a recent report by manufacturing group EEF as an inspiring example for girls looking to get into senior roles in the sector. Along with many of her female peers from the industry, Flo advocates increasing gender diversity through encouragement and development, not enforcement. Rather than quotas, EEF wants to see companies take steps to identify and support talented women, improve the image and perception of manufacturing and do more to engage with schools. Datalink has about 50 staff in Jubilee Drive, Loughborough, and provides electronics design and manufacturing for a range of customers. It has been in business for over 30 years, providing electronic systems in areas such as industrial controls, the environment, medicine, security and oil and gas. The past three decades have seen many changes in the company. Through organic growth and acquisitions, it has developed from a start-up unit on the Loughborough University campus, with merely a desk and a chair, to a company recognised for robust electronics design and manufacturing. Over time, the design department has expanded to specialise in healthcare products, and mobile payment and processing systems and built Datalink’s reputation of designing and manufacturing creative, high-technology electronic products. The company prides itself on an understanding of legislative and regulatory aspects of placing electronic products in the market, further strengthening its wide ranging capabilities.
