Stop Press! Datalink and Rolls Royce in partnership in exciting new technology venture

Date posted: Friday, October 15th, 2010

We thought we’d take this opportunity to announce some really exciting news. Datalink Electronics is delighted to announce our involvement in some groundbreaking new technology that has just been released into the American market.

Datalink Electronics are really honoured to have teamed up with the hugely talented engineers at Rolls Royce, reflecting our huge commitment to innovation in electronics design.

The product is called SignHear and uses technology developed by Rolls Royce to detect structural faults within turbine blades. The method – acoustic emission detection – fires a sound pulse into jet engines and the acoustic signals reflected back can be analysed to determine cracks present.

Rolls-Royce noticed during development that when a person writes the same technology can be applied, therefore they teamed up with Datalink Electronics to develop technology to pick up the sound a signature generates when a pen drags across a surface. Hence SignHear was born.

No two signatures, in terms of the sounds generated, are identical therefore the system cannot be fraudulently used and the signatures recorded cannot be converted into visual images.

SignHear has just been released into nurseries, health centres and point of sale in America and feedback so far has been excellent. If you would like some further information on this venture please call us on 01509 231023.
