Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals
The EU REACH regulations came into force on 1st June 2007.The EU established REACH, as an integrated system for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals.
REACH requires firms which manufacture and import chemicals to evaluate the risks to human health, and the environment, resulting from the use of these chemicals, and to take the necessary steps to manage any identified risk. Annex Xiv identifies substances of very high concern (SVHCs) which will be banned unless authorisation for use is obtained.
There may be instances where SVHCs are present in electronic components at levels where the manufacturer must indicate their presence, and provide a safety datasheet, so that the components can be handled safely. Datalink is currently working with its suppliers to identify these components and put in place the processes needed to provide the safety information to our customers within the timetable set out for the legislation to come into full effect.
